Its first newsprint hit the streets of Kota Kinabalu (was known as Jesselton then) on 1 March 1936. It was the first daily in Sabah (was known as North Borneo then). The late Tan Sri Yeh Pao Tzu took over the paper in 1949, and served as its publisher cum chief editor. The impartial commentaries, accurate and up-to-date coverage has made the OCDN the most prestigious and influential Chinese paper with the widest circulation in Kota Kinabalu to-date.

Daily Express was founded by the late Tan Sri Yeh Pao Tzu and the first issue hit the streets on March 1, 1963. Published in trilingual ie English, Bahasa Malaysia and Kadazan, it is by far the largest circulation daily newspaper in Sabah.
The paper covers a wide range of topics including international, national and local news, financial and business pages, sports, entertainment and leisure, feminine page, doctor column, student page, Hotline (a public service), and others.
